Hey Everyone! I (Sarah) went to the Bite of Nanaimo on Friday evening and it was so much fun! It was my first time to the event but it has been happening in Nanaimo for the last 21 years. It was really awesome to experience a bunch of good food all in the same place! Underneath is what I had in the evening:
Margarita Brown’s Social House
Mmm this was so refreshing!! I probably should have started with some food, but hey, when in Rome right?
Butternut Squash Ravioli with Shrimp Cactus Club
I love love love ravioli so I knew this was a must when we did our first round of checking all the food out. Oh boy I wasn’t disappointed either! I don’t really like shrimp but this tasted to good with the ravioli and the squash it was just perfect for this fall.
Ribs with Cole Slaw and Cornbread Montana’s
These were fall of the bones ribs! Woo, were they good! I kind of like ribs but this introduced me to rib ribs! Now I get why everyone is so crazy over BBQ – because when it is done right it is SO GOOD!
Street Taco Baby Salsa
This was a chicken taco with mole sauce and cheese with a homemade tortilla. I was really exited about this because I was wanting something really fresh, but the mole sauce just wasn’t what I was after. The sauce was a bit too spicy and a bit too hot. Maybe if the mole sauce was different or not on it at all I would have liked it.
Chicken Tikka Masala Longwood Brew Pub
I think that this was my favourite of the night! I like longwood’s beer a lot but I have never really tried a lot of their food. This was a good introduction into their food. The spice was spot on in this dish. Not too hot, not too bland, just perfect. Also it came with a small piece of naan bread which is always amazing.
Chocolate Caramel Macaroon VIU Bakery
Taste bud explosion! I have had a couple macaroons but this one was the best so far! I also go to VIU so I was feeling some pride while sampling this delicious creation that these bakers and I go to the same school! Go VIU!
Pain Au Chocolat & Coffee VIU Bakery
This was a great choice to end the night with! I love coffee and know I love pain au chocolate (croissant with chocolate how could you not) so it was sooo good together!
The whole evening was a great time with friends and some awesome food! If you are in Nanaimo go to Bite of Nanaimo next year! Also go out and try some of our awesome restaurants! I know we live in a fairly small town but I think that we have some AWESOME resaraunt with some really talented, creative chefs.
