Explore | Eat Within Your Radius: Radius Food Co.

I feel like, over the past month or two, we’ve been bringing you a lot of foodie related posts. I mean, who can blame us really – doesn’t everyone love food? If no, don’t worry, we’ve got a few things in the works that doesn’t revolve around food, but for now you’ll just have to drool over the deliciousness that is Radius Food Co.

Radius Food Co. can be found along the oceanside route (Highway 19A) just north of downtown Qualicum Beach. I LOVE their restaurant’s decor. Everything is natural wood and they have some of the most beautiful artwork on their walls (most – all?- of which are from local artists). We picked a prime seat at a table in front of the french doors overlooking  the patio and front lawn. It was too cold to eat outside but I can’t wait to try out their patio this summer.

New to the restaurant scene in Qualicum Beach, Radius Food Co. is all about keeping things local. I mean, all ready, Local Loves is sold on Radius because y’all know we LOVE keepin’ things local. Every menu item can be easily adapted to gluten-free, dairy-free, or vegetarian diets. Which is perfect for those with special dietary needs! A friend of ours is celiac and sometimes it can be tricky to come up with new places to eat aside from her usual faves.

Bonus: their kitchen is a nut free zone!

Glancing at Radius’ menu, it’s easy to see that they focus on “Real Local Flavours”. Every item on the menu, from drinks to main course to dessert, is sourced locally. Take their Charcuterie Platter, for example. All the meats come from a Qualicum Beach farm (and then sent to Two Rivers Specialty Meats in Vancouver to be cured) while the cheeses are hand made by Salt Spring Island Cheese Co. Sarah was excited to see one of her favs, Errington’s Island Soda Works, on the drinks menu. She’s a fan of their Nootka Rose soda!

Sarah was elated with the Charcuterie Board (accompanied by la Boulange organic bread!). Looks good doesn’t it?!

For me, I had a hankering for a good sandwich. And, oh boy, did I get one.

Meet the Jerk Chicken Sandwich. This bad boy has all the fixin’s of a great sandwich. Crispy yet soft ciabatta? Check. Perfectly seasoned chicken? Check. Tastebud-tingling sauce? Check. Enough greens to get your iron levels pumpin’? Check.

You’re probably thinking, man, after all that mouthwatering food I bet they’re full, right? Wrong. Well, maybe. But we couldn’t let a rapidly-filling stomach deter us from trying some desserts (and coffee/tea to go along with).

Sarah opted for the apple fritter (uhm, YUM) while I wanted to try the gluten free brownie:

Who says gluten-free food isn’t DROP DEAD DELICIOUS. Seriously. This brownie is to die for.

We had such a lovely time at Radius – the food was great, the staff was super friendly, and the company, as always, was peachy. If you’re looking for a new go-to restaurant, check out Radius Food Co. They’re open for lunch and dinner Wednesday-Saturday.

What about Sunday you ask? Well, I always do love saving the best for last… On Sunday’s Radius has a brunch-only menu. BRUNCH-ONLY PEOPLE. I know what I’m doing this Sunday. Meet you there?

Their Tofino Old Growth Dark Coffee is not to be missed either. We agree that the charcuterie platter was wonderful and with two celiac friends along for the meal they were able to find great choices on the menu. Nice people, wonderful decor and location. Works for me every time.
