Fall is here, bringing with it crisp air, spawning salmon, hungry bears, leaves changing from green to gold, harvest festivals and pumpkin spice lattes. Here are some favorite places to visit in Parksville Qualicum Beach and area in the fall:
The Big Qualicum Fish Hatchery is located on River Road in Qualicum Bay. At the hatchery explore nature trails through colorful deciduous forests, look for salmon jumping in the spawning channels and get an up close look at the fish in the underground viewing areas. Looking for a longer walk? Check out the Big Qualicum Regional Trail, which follows the 10km long hatchery service road alongside the river.
Enjoy spectacular colors as the trees and shrubs gathered from temperate zones around the world turn various shades of red, yellow, purple, black, orange pink, magenta and brown. Garden and Tea Room hours vary so please check the Milner Gardens website before heading out
Kilometers of cycling or walking trails await you at this 207-hectare park, which runs along the Englishman River. Fall leaves, spawning salmon, birds and other wildlife, and countless types of mushrooms can be seen. Start your adventure at the Top Bridge Crossing – a spectacular pedestrian & cycling suspension bridge across the Englishman River.Downtown Parksville & Qualicum Beach
As fall sets in the carefully manicured gardens and tree- lined streets of Qualicum Beach change to brilliant shades of gold and red. In Parksville wander along Memorial Avenue amongst the giant elm trees- each was planted to commemorate the death of a local soldier who died in WW1. While in town stop by one of our cozy coffee shops to enjoy that pumpkin spice latte.
