Event | Gold & Shadow TORCH Tour

GUYS. Guys. I know – it’s been a while since Local Loves has been caressing your brain with our lovable and, dare I say, charming blog posts. I’m sarry. I just haven’t been, like, inspired as of late. Which you may think is weird but when my heart’s not in it, the words don’t flow, and when the words don’t flow, the posts don’t make it to you. But guess whaaaat? Gold & Shadow has broken my writer’s block!

As you may recall (or maybe you don’t?!) Sarah and I went and saw Gold & Shadow absolutely slay it at Nanaimo’s Port Theatre back in the spring. So when I found out that their new album dropped AND that they were touring in support of said album, I got majorly excited.

TORCH, Gold & Shadow’s debut full-length album, is made of calm and chaos and beauty and loss and everything else that goes into making an album worth listening to.

Event | Longwoodstock 2015!

Well, friends, it’s the last day of August. Summer is officially beginning to wind down – with school starting in a little over a week, soon the days of swimming, laying out on the beach, bbq’s, night drives with your windows down and a warm breeze in your hair, and hitting up outdoor concerts will be no more.

One of the biggest bashes this summer was Longwood Brewery‘s inaugural Longwoodstock Festival. I’d even go as far to say that it was my favourite event ALL SUMMER. I mean, let’s be honest here – the tagline was Beer. Music. Food. and if that doesn’t whet your whistle then we can’t be friends (joking… sorta).

LOOK at my media pass. I felt so fancy.

Vote | We ♥ Local Awards!

Happy Friday, Local Lovelies! Who’s excited it’s Friday? We sure are. ESPECIALLY since rain is in the forecast (hey – we’re dry as a raisin over here, we could use some hydration). You know what else we’re excited for? The We ♥ Local Awards!

Qualicum Beach Farmers’ Market

If we had a nickel for every time we said we love keepin’ it local, we’d owe ourselves… a lot of nickels tbh. The We ♥ Local Awards are just as you’d imagine them: awards for anyone and everyone who helps support the local economy. The best part, aside from celebrating the farmers, artisans, and advocates of our community, is that the We ♥ Local Awards are completely nominated and voted for by you! Continue reading

Explore | Craig Street Market $20 Challenge!

Hello everyone! A couple of weeks ago we went to the Craig Street Market (one of our favs!) in Parksville with our friend Laura. We set out a challenge to see what each of us could buy for $20.00 at this summertime night market. Full disclosure: it’s pretty much all food (but that don’t make it any less exciting)!

We parked on Memorial Ave and made our way to the lively market. As luck would have it, Sean’s favourite band, Kumbana Marimba, was playing some of their infectious Marimba tunes! Continue reading

Guest Contributor | Fall in love with (or at!) #MeetMyMarket month this July!

Hey guys! We are SO very excited to have the BC Association of Farmers’ Market (BCAFM) as guest contributors on Local Loves Nanaimo today!  It is no secret that we love farmers’ markets so when BCAFM contacted us about #MeetMyMarket, having them as guest contributors was a no brainer. Here’s your recipe for a perfectly quirky (or delightfully decadent) date at your local farmers’ market.

Planning the perfect date can be a little (okay, very) intimidating: after all, you have to make sure you pick an affordable, local activity: a place with built-in fun that makes it easy to talk and get to know each other…and, oh yeah, make sure a mini-adventure is also on offer. It’s a tall order.

Parksville Museum Farmers Market

Problem solved: July 2015 is #MeetMyMarket month, and there’s no better place than your friendly local farmers’ market to tell your sweetie that your heart (ahem) ‘beets’ faster around them. With the chance to win a three night getaway for two (+ wine touring) at the Okanagan’s Sparkling Hill resort, it’s easier than ever to fall in love with (and at!) your local market.
