Events | Recap: The Port Theatre’s Youth Arts Initiative Free Concert!

OH MY GOD. Before we formally start this post, can we just give props to the absolutely AMAZING job that the Youth Arts Initiative did on this concert?! If you missed out on the opportunity to catch the We Are The City concert, we’ll try our best to fill you in, but there’s no way we can convey how awesome the Youth Arts Initiative did in putting on this concert. I’m still blown away (and, at the time of writing this, the concert was 5 days ago!).

If you don’t already know, Sarah and I were contacted by Melanie at The Port Theatre to help raise awareness for this great event (you can read all about that here). However, we didn’t just want to spread the word on our blog, we also wanted to support the event (I mean, and listen to great Canadian music too). Continue reading

Events | The Port Theatre’s Youth Arts Initiative Free Concert!

There is a long list of things that we lovelovelove here at Local Loves Nanaimo. One of those things? Music. Another one of those things? Getting involved in the community. Which is why we are super excited to share with you The Port Theatre’s upcoming Youth Arts Initiative Concert!

On May 14th The Port Theatre’s Youth Arts Initiative is organizing a free concert at Nanaimo’s theatre on Front Street featuring music from Canadian bands We Are The City (Kelowna/Vancouver), Gold & Shadow (Nanaimo), and The Wild Romantics (Vancouver)! This is a super exciting event because not only does it feature great Canadian acts (hello, we have some of the best music out there) but the event is being planned by The Youth Arts Initiative.

Explore | Farmers Market Season is HERE!

I love the month of May. Aside from Mother’s Day, warm weather, my birthday, another Marvel movie in theatres, and the promise of summer around the corner, May means the start of Farmers Market season. To get you prepped for a fruitful season (see what I did there?) I’ve compiled a list of Nanaimo & Area farmers markets starting up this month:

Errington Farmers Market

Last Saturday (May 2nd), the Errington Farmers Market opened its doors for its 42nd year! You can find fresh farm produce, soaps, flowers, textiles, live music, and more all under the canopy  of shade trees in beautiful Errington Community Park.

You can visit the Errington Farmers Market every Saturday from 10am-1pm.

Qualicum Beach Farmers Market

Although the Qualicum Beach Farmers Market is open year-round, the market spends winters indoors. Now that the weather is warming up, it’s time to move the market back outside! This also means that the market expands from 30 vendors (in its winter season) to over 60 vendors!

Starting last Saturday (May 2nd) the QBFM is open Saturdays from 8:30am-12pm.

Explore | Favourite Fall Things

Can you fracking believe it? IT’S OCTOBER.

Like, wasn’t it just August 6 days ago?! Time is moving much too fast for me. Although, I’m not too mad about it because October means my favourite time of year – fall (aka, sweater weather). And not like September Fall where you think it’s fall so you get excited and wear your favourite tall boots, coziest sweater, slouchiest touque with piping hot London Fog in hand but then by 1pm you’re sweating your face off and have to find a deep freezer to cool down in… Uhh. Sorry. I got lost in thought there. I mean fall as in crisp autumn air, colourful leaves crunching beneath my boots, and, yes, even pumpkin spiced lattes (not my go to, but Sarah’s fave fall drink – miss you Sarah!!).
