So I have this thing about sunsets (like most people probably). I love love love me a good sunset. Not like the clear sky sunsets but sunsets where clouds are splattered across the sky, painted in brilliant colours of pink, peach, and lilac. One thing I wish I enjoyed more were sunrises. I mean, it’s not that I DON’T enjoy essentially a reverse sunset (can I make that a thing?). It’s just that the sunrise ascends from the horizon just too dang early.
Hello lovely readers! Last week I popped by Island-ish an amazing new shop in Nanaimo near Departure Bay. It’s the perfect sea-side shop to browse and get inspired in. My friend Laura says it’s a “Pinterest” shop and I couldn’t agree more. As well as beautiful clothing and gifts they have country chic paint, which is a chalk based mineral paint. They sell the paint, offer tips and inspiration as well as offer classes for a more in-depth lesson into the product.
A few weeks ago, friends and family came to visit my parents at their new(ish!) beachside home. So what better way than to celebrate with afternoon tea?
We made a lot of items from our menu from scratch but also sourced some treats from local bakeries!
One of my favourite summer pastimes is watching sunsets on the beach. I find it so soothing listening to the ocean wash ashore, the tumbling of the stones beneath the water, and the feeling of the sun’s warmth fading as it dips below the horizon. Whether alone, with a friend, or with a group of people, sunset watching will always be my go-to when I need to de-stress. There are so many spots where I can do just that, which is why I decided to compile a list for you including some of my favourite beaches from which to watch the sun set.
OH MY GOODNESS. Who would have thought that we’d hit a one year anniversary!? Not us. But we’re super excited and happy and all other positive adjectives – I think giddy is a fitting one. When we began this blog we really had no idea what the reception would be like. We were happy even if 10 people read our blog, let alone 300+. We’re also constantly blown away by readers from outside of Nanaimo and Canada. Just last week we had a huge surge in readers from Slovakia. It’s pretty neat that we have that kind of reach and that people from all over the world are coming to read about Nanaimo. To commemorate our one year anniversary, we thought we’d revisit some of our favourite posts over the last year. So, whether you’ve been with us since the beginning, or are new to our blog, come take a walk down memory lane with us!
