Tea Time in Style at Venus Sophia Tearoom & Eatery

I’ve been living in Victoria for over two years now and it astounds me just how little I’ve really explored this place. You KNOW that says a lot because if you follow llvi’s instagram (shameless plug) you know I get around. That’s one of the things I love most about this city, though, is that there is always a new spot to explore or a new experience to enjoy. Enter Venus Sophia Tearoom & Eatery.

Explore | LLN’s Favourite Brunch Spots!

Happy Friday lovely readers!

Today I want to share with you three of my absolute favourite places to hit up for Sunday brunch. Growing up, I wasn’t much of a breakfast person. But one thing I did look forward to was weekend breakfasts where my parents would fry up a feast of scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, golden toasted… toast (?), all accompanied with a nice cold glass of orange juice. Of course, once you get older and move out for University, weekend breakfasts become more of a greasy hangover breakfast from an iffy breakfast chain. Or wait, was that just me?!

Well, the old adage “with age comes wisdom” must be true because now that my uni days are behind me, I’ve come to appreciate a well-made breakfast using local ingredients (everything tastes better when using local food). Which is why the following three restaurants top my list for fav brunch: Continue reading

Explore | Farm to Table: Brunch at Gabriel’s Gourmet Cafe

Guys, I don’t need to keep reminding you how much we love keepin’ it local here at LLN. So it should come as no surprise that this week we’re featuring Gabriel’s Gourmet Cafe. What should come as a surprise, though, is that I’ve lived in Nanaimo for ~9 years now AND THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I’VE EATEN AT GABRIEL’S. I know – shameful.

The silly thing is that I even used to live and work downtown but Gabriel’s fell into my dreaded “later zone”. You know the zone – we all have it. It’s that zone where it’s so close that you think, “Oh I’ll get to it soon” but you just. never. do. Continue reading

Explore | Cuckoo in Coombs : Trattoria & Pizzeria

Bonjour, mes amis! Or should I say, ciao, il mio amici! Guess what? This is my first ~official~ Local Loves Nanaimo post since returning home from my grand adventure. And it’s a good’un. If you love Italian food, quirky named-restaurants (or just love me), you’re gonna wanna stick around.

Since coming home from my whirlwind, across-the-world vacation backpacking trip I’ve been pretty lazy. Aside from sending out resumés upon resumés, and catching up on all my tv shows (must do), I literally do nothing but eat, breathe, and sleep. Which is why, on a sunny Saturday afternoon, my mom persuaded me to have lunch at Coombs’ Cuckoo Trattoria & Pizzeria. Now, I’d heard of Cuckoo’s before – in fact Sarah and her family have been known to frequent this little slice of Italian heaven.

Explore | New to Nanaimo: Noodlebox!

OK. So we know that, as Local Loves Nanaimo, we love to share all things local. But Noodlebox is just so amazing, we couldn’t not share. From the decor, to the food, to the location, we love everything about newly opened Noodlebox. And y’all just know I (Sean) love Asian food to no end. So, as Noodlebox is a ‘Southeast Asian Noodle Bar’, we really couldn’t not share!
